In general, students should expect to spend 27.75 hours on their formal education each week, as required by state guidelines.

Trekkers, Grades K-5: Because students learn in various ways, learning needs for younger students are met through a blend of online materials and other methods. Online resources help manage, assess, plan and deliver learning and these are blended with printed practice books and hands-on activities to create a balanced approach. We expect students to spend about 50% of their school time online and the rest of their time working in their workbooks and doing hands-on activities.

Adventurers, Grades 6-8: Most of the content and projects are completed online. Some electives are not. Students spend about 80% of their school time online.

We review all IEPs and 504 plans to make sure student needs can be met in our online setting.  Depending on the IEP and 504 plan, we can tailor our program and courses to meet student needs.

Students in kindergarten are assessed with the Washington Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills (WaKIDS) in the fall.

K-2 students will be given the Early Literacy Skills Assessment (ELSA) in the fall, winter and spring.

Students in grades 1-8 will be assessed twice per year in Reading and Math using the Battle Ground school district diagnostic assessment, i-Ready.
Students in grades 3-8 will be assessed in Reading and Math using the state Smarter Balanced Assessment.

Students in grade 5 and 8 will be assessed in Science using the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS).

District iReady assessments will identify the learning levels of students in grades 1-8 in Reading and Math. If students are ready for higher level work, this work will be given through specially designed projects and additional online programs. Middle school students may have the flexibility to work ahead in their courses.

K-8: depending on the needs of students, we currently offer dual enrollment up to full time status. Read more about dual enrollment here.

No, there is no deadline for enrollment. We are a continuously enrolling school. However, in order to staff appropriately, it is considerate to make a decision regarding schooling as soon as possible. We begin forecasting for the following school year in February.

K-3 students will need greater support from parents than older students.  In addition to age, parent time commitment depends on the ability of their child to work independently. Parents have their own account to monitor progress through Accelerate Education.  Students in grades 4-5 will be more independent but still need support from the learning coach (parent) in understanding concepts and completing tasks in a timely manner.

6-8 students will need close supervision in the first couple weeks until the learning coach (parent) and advisor feel that the students can manage their time and school work more independently. This will be 5-6 hours per day to start. Eventually a motivated student with a strong work ethic may only need 1-2 hours of support each day.

Advising teachers monitor student activity and  progress, also. Parents meet once or twice per month with advisory teachers for a progress review meeting through Zoom.

The online curriculum platform used for grades K-5 is Accelerate Education. Other district-supported digital resources such as iReady lessons, Epic books, Reflex to study math facts, and Lexia for reading, depending on grade level, are also utilized to support student learning. Online courses will also be supplemented with non-digital learning experiences in all subject areas.

The online curriculum platform used for grades 6-8 is Imagine Edgenuity. Supplemental resources include Khan Academy and iReady My Path.

Here is an example of a middle school schedule. We recommend that families start with this schedule and make adjustments as needed.
